How Healthy Is Turkey Deli?

While deli turkey will not cause any health hazard to your body, it is not as healthy as other forms of turkey meat. Like all other deli meats, the turkey deli contains massive traces of nitrites, fat, sodium, and other preservatives. It’s these excess minerals that make the turkey deli unhealthy in some ways, including;

  • High sodium intake leads to elevated blood pressure and fluid retention
  • Increased risk of cardiovascular ailments due to the high-fat content compared to protein, as is the case with all processed meats
  • Increased risk of colorectal cancer, which is accelerated by high nitrites and nitrates levels from the preservatives used
  • Possible weight gain due to high levels of calories, and it exposes one to the risk of contracting diabetes. The nitrate in the preservatives could lead to oxidative stress, leading to insulin resistance

  • Half tablespoon of onion powder

Procedure

  • Step 1: Put all the ingredients in a bowl except the turkey deli and mix them thoroughly. I also get to add any savory flavors I want into the mixture to give it a taste of my preference. The dry rub that I will use on the turkey deli is the combination.
  • Step 2: On the countertop, lay a large plastic sheet and place a parchment paper on its top.
  • Step 3: Dry the turkey breast using a paper towel.
  • Step 4: Sprinkle the dry rub over every part of the turkey breast. Ensure the meat is well covered with the dry rub.
  • Step 5: Fold the parchment paper, thus tightly enclosing the turkey breast.
  • Step 6: Place the turkey breast in an oven and cook at 165 °F for about an hour and a half.
  • Step 7: Keep the turkey breast wrapped with the parchment paper for about 8 to 10 hours, and then remove it.
  • Step 8: Remove the parchment paper and slice the meat into small pieces to make a turkey deli.
  • Step 9: Use the turkey deli as part of the fillings in your sandwich.
